We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent Highways Inspector to join our NMC South West team based in Polmadie, Glasgow.

Working in partnership with Transport Scotland, we help maintain over 600 kilometres of trunk roads and 1,650 structures across the South West network. Our teams play a vital role in keeping Scotland moving safely by delivering inspections, maintenance, incident response and winter services that support local communities, businesses and road users every day.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Highways Inspector, you'll play an important role in helping to maintain the safety and condition of Scotland's trunk road network. The working hours for this role is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. We understand the importance of work-life balance and offer flexible working arrangements where operationally possible.

You'll be responsible for:

• Carrying out scheduled inspections across the South West road network
• Identifying and recording defects and safety issues
• Collecting and managing inspection data accurately
• Supporting the production of reports and technical information
• Working closely with operational teams to ensure works are completed safely and efficiently
• Assisting with investigations and inspections relating to incidents and third-party claims
• Following health, safety and environmental procedures at all times
• Building positive relationships with colleagues, clients and stakeholders

No two days are the same, and you'll gain valuable knowledge of highway operations, infrastructure maintenance and asset management.

What We're Looking For

You'll be:

• Self-motivated and able to manage your workload effectively
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a wider team
• A confident communicator with good interpersonal skills
• Organised and able to produce accurate records and reports
• Keen to learn new skills and develop your career

Essential

• Full UK Driving Licence
• Willingness to work outdoors and travel across the road network
• Basic IT skills and attention to detail

Desirable (But Not Essential)

• Experience within highways, construction, engineering, transport or infrastructure
• Knowledge of inspections, asset management or defect identification
• Highways inspection qualifications
• Personal Highway Safety (PHS) certification
